Chicken Deli growth spurs partnership renewal with Pepsi Philippines

Val is a big chicken inasal fan. I remember when we were still in Manila, one of our go-to places was the newly opened Chicken Deli branch in Ayala Fairview Terraces. The food is delicious yet very affordable. Not to mention they also serve unlimited rice.

During Val's 30th birthday, we celebrated it with family and friends by enjoying the authentic  Chicken Inasal plus other local favorites such as Kare-Kare and Pork Sisig. Thus, we consider Chicken Deli a significant part of the life of an ordinary Filipino like us.

So, when we arrived in Bacolod in 2015 -- we were actually surprised that this humble family diner is big in the City of Smiles. We had no idea that the restaurant actually originated here in Bacolod and we are very happy and proud of the success of our favorite inasal restaurant.

Now on its 35th year, Chicken Inasal is celebrating a renewed partnership with bottling firm, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc., (PCPPI) the "Bidang Inasal ng Bacolod" restaurant will continue its aggressive expansion, serving their unique authentic chicken Inasal partnered with Pepsi products across their channel of almost 50 stores nationwide.

According to RC Ciocon Jr., Director for the LC Group of companies, "This is the collaboration of two very reliable brands with parallel missions and visions to reach. Chicken Deli and PCPPI have similar Corporate Social Responsibility platforms sharing the same dedication to service and love for the environment." The partnership came naturally as both companies shared common advocacies in excellent business practices and serving their communities.

Chicken Deli plans to expand its business to 150 - 200 stores in the next five years through business evolution, franchising, and strategic corporate partnership--all while maintaining the original chicken Inasal recipe that made them famous.

"Back when Chicken Deli was set only in Bacolod, PCPPI's Bacolod plant was exclusively distributing our products to their restaurants," said PCPPI Senior General Manager Lyndon Cuadra. "Now with Chicken Deli's nationwide presence and today's partnership renewal, the company has become our modern trade partner and key account to be serviced by different plants across the country."

(L-R) PCPPI General Manager for Bacolod, Delfin Dizon; PCPPI Senior General Manager, Lyndon Cuadra; PCPPI Head of National Sales, Domingo Almazan; LC Group Director RC Ciocon Jr.; LC Group Chief Operations Officer, Danilo Pumarega; LC Group Director, Malou Granada

Spicing up the food industry

Chicken Deli opened franchising opportunities to local entrepreneurs in 2011 and has since appealed to businessmen that in the seven years that followed, the number of franchises across the country more than tripled against its 12 company-owned stores.

In the beginning, its founder and the Ciocon family matriarch, Mamang planned to settle Chicken Deli's lone store solely in Bacolod to keep the authenticity of her signature heirloom recipe. With locals and tourists making a visit to the restaurant a habit, it eventually sought to expand the business by opening more stores in the Visayas region and seeking franchise partners.

Mamang opted to cook Inasal through the long process of manually marinating the meat, then cooking it fresh as opposed to pre-cooking before storage followed by hasty preparation. Upholding integrity in their service as demonstrated by his grandmother, Ciocon underlined that it was this same quality they were looking for from franchisees.

"People often think as long as they have the money, they will be viable to franchise the business, but we are looking for partners who are deeply committed to and involved with their business on a daily or at least weekly basis," he said.

A third-generation owner of the restaurant, Ciocon highlighted evolving the business while staying true to its roots as a primary focus in appealing to the bigger market they now have. Apart from opening franchising opportunities, Chicken Deli has structured operations through the support of their commissaries in Bacolod and Manila.

"We also invest in our people," Ciocon said. "One of our challenges in the past was finding the right talent to employ, but we eventually built a system which preferred hiring fresh graduates and investing in their training through a comprehensive and continuous program throughout their employment."

Also in the business of caring for their surrounding community, Chicken Deli expressed their anticipation of partnering with PCPPI for Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives in the region and nationwide. Noting the bottling firm's recent programs for environmental preservation like tree planting and estero clean-ups, as well as social drives such as feeding programs and gift giving for children during December, Ciocon is optimistic that the partnership will be able to achieve more than business prosperity.

"We officially welcome Pepsi as one of our valuable partners, and I am confident we will help each other thrive through a continued successful and mutually beneficial partnership."

#GrowOldWithMyDog: 4 Things You Should Never Feed Your Dog

We are starting a new blog series called #GrowOldWithMyDog. It will feature stories about responsible pet ownership, tips on how to properly take care of them as well as fun and exciting experiences of being a dog parent.

Just a heads up -- I am not an expert nor a licensed veterinarian but rest assured that we will be sharing only information from reliable sources including my personal experience as a fur parent to my 13-year old Maltese, Crumpy, my adopted Shih Tzu, Cheesecake and my little 1.5-year-old furball, Cinderella.

---------------------------------------

For our first post, we will be sharing about the 4 Things that We Should Never Feed Our Dogs.

Experts say that dogs grow much faster than humans and thus, it is ideal that they get the sufficient amount of nutrients through specific nutrition made for them (a.k.a. dog food) However, whether we admit it or not, there are times that we can't help but share our table food with them especially when you are eating and you see those little puppy eyes begging for food.

As a fur parent, I end up so heartbroken if I don't share. Most of the time, I just say that I am going to give them just a little slice/ piece. But I learned that some human food is just highly toxic for them and thus for these 4 things ----  it is definitely a NO.

4 Things that We Should Never Feed Our Dogs

1. Chocolates - This may be considered a good source of antioxidants for human beings but unfortunately, chocolates are highly poisonous for dogs and other animals. It may cause vomiting, diarrhea, and seizures. In the worst cases, it can even lead to cardiac failure, death or coma.

2. Grapes and Raisins - According to PetMD, grapes, and raisin (dried grapes) toxicity is well documented in dogs. Although the exact substance that causes the toxic reaction is not yet known, dogs should not eat grapes and raisins because even small amounts can prove to be fatally toxic for them. Don't forget to check your pastries if they contain this.

3. Garlic and Onion - This is one of the most common toxic food unconsciously given to our pets since due to its small size. When deciding on what food to give, we should keep in mind the ingredients present. In this case, garlic flavored adobo, fried garlic rice, garlic chicken wings, onion rings are a big no-no for our dogs.

4. Chicken Bones - I grew up believing that dogs should be fed with bones, however, after watching videos on youtube about pet emergencies, I realized that not all bones are good for dogs. Smaller ones like chicken bones can pose serious choking hazards for them. Also, our dogs have the tendency to swallow them immediately and these sharp edges when not chewed properly can actually hurt their internal organs and intestine lining.

So, if you are feeding them chicken, please take time to remove the bones before giving it to them.

How about you? Do you know other food that our dogs should avoid? Feel free to share them on the comments section below.

Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Start Reading Magazines Again

With everything going digital, I can't help but miss the feel and excitement whenever I get a new printed copy of a book or the latest issue of my favorite magazine. I remember spending most of my school allowance on Seventeen, BOP, and Cosmo. The new information and the latest updates and trends that I get from reading was definitely worth every penny.

Unfortunately, when they started creating websites and making all the content available online, I no longer found the reason to grab my favorite magazines. Instead, I just read its digital copies. It was free and convenient.

However this 2018 -- I discovered Southwall Magazine during its launch in Bacolod last July 17 at the Gallery Orange and I have found all the reasons why I should start my magazine subscription again.

Top 5 Reasons Why You Should Start Reading Magazines Again

1. Southwall Magazine has a great layout with really nice glossy pages. It has the same feel and vibrant pictures that I have always loved. I can imagine myself reading one while enjoying a cup of tea on a Saturday afternoon.

2. You can relate to it. The magazine is focused on the best that southern living has to offer. For someone who is residing in Visayas, it is our joy to see and read about the things we love about our place. It is our pride to share what we have.

3. They feature "real" people with really inspiring and amazing accomplishments. Just like in its sophomore issue, the magazine's cover featured no other than Bacolod's very own,  Mr. Jonathan Lo, the CEO of CM & Sons Food Products, Inc., makers of our favorite Merzci pasalubong products.

They also featured other eminent male business and community leaders in the south such as Richard Gomez, John and Bunny Pages, Derek Hytian, Henrik Yu, Jason Atherton and Leo Locsin Jr.

4. It is made with love and the content is curated well. Since Southwall Magazine started as a passion project in 2005, readers can expect great content that showcases a resplendent line-up of important personages, noteworthy luminaries and the best that the southern scene can offer. The Southwall Magazine is available quarterly starting February 2018.

5. Lastly, it is very affordable. It was such a surprise that this glossy 120+ pages magazine only costs Php 200 per issue. Definitely, a steal!

So, if you also like to start reading magazines again -- you can order a subscription by contacting (032) 4140736 or by sending them an email at info.southwall@gmail.com. Also, don't forget to follow them on Facebook and Instagram for updates.

Be Limitless with SvelT’i

In this day and age where technology has inevitably become a part of our daily lives, we are subconsciously living limitlessly with almost everything readily available at the tip of our fingers. It has led to so many discoveries, better establishments, and better luxuries and has dramatically changed our daily lives. From the way we communicate to speedy internet connection, from the academe to various industries, and from healthcare to aesthetics. Even in aesthetics and especially in the field of beauty, technology has been a huge driving force behind their huge improvements.

For the past two years, SvelT’i has been creating sweeping possibilities that unlock the customers’ health and beauty potentials while satisfying their needs and demands. To keep up with the changing times and as a way to say ‘Thank you’ for the customers’ continued trust, SvelT’i now offers a new set of services that aim to further defy the limits that constrict an individual’s health and attractiveness. Starting April, the clinic has been offering the latest techniques in minimally invasive treatments- from botox, dermal fillers, non-surgical nose lifts (HIKO), platelet-rich plasma (vampire facelift), mesotherapy, sclerotherapy, to thread lift.

BOTOX
Botox is a neuromodulator that blocks the signal from the nerve to muscle, preventing the muscles to contract, hence preventing dynamic wrinkles to appear and worsen. When frown, forehead, bunny lines and crow’s feet are smoothened, an overall vitality is observed in the face.

DERMAL FILLERS
Filler injections are used to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, shape facial contours and add to volume loss to aging face. It is used to heighten the nose, transform tired looking sunken under eyes to a fresher look, rejuvenate or make the lips plumper, add volume to the cheeks and even augment the chin to make it more proportion to the face.

Filler injection is a lunchtime procedure which gives an instant result.

HIKO
HIKO is a non-surgical noselift procedure that enhances the feature of the nose. It is an extremely popular procedure which gives the nose more definitive structure and lifts the nose tip. This involves inserting threads into the nose bridge and the tip. Combining nose threads and nose fillers will give you long lasting, higher and sharper nose creating the nose you've always wanted with minimal downtime.

PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) / VAMPIRE FACELIFT
The platelet-rich plasma or vampire facelift includes drawing blood from the patient, separating the platelets then injecting it back into the skin.  The platelets are high in growth factor that helps stimulate the skin to regenerate and aid in cell turnover, making it look youthful and vibrant. This procedure can be done not just on the face but on other aging parts of the body like the neck and hands. It also aids in addressing hair loss or thinning.

MESOTHERAPY
This procedure employs multiple injections of fat-burning products and plant extracts into the subcutaneous fat. It targets localized and stubborn fats that are hard to eliminate even with exercise. This procedure has been performed all over the globe for over fifty years because of its effectiveness. Other indication for the use of mesotherapy aside from weight loss is cellulite.

Mesotherapy combined with SvelT’i's world-class slimming lasers produces faster and superior results.

SCLEROTHERAPY
Spider veins that hinder the flaunting of smooth and toned leg scan are treated with sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is used to treat blood vessels like spider veins and smaller varicose veins. A sclerosing solution is injected into the unwanted veins which causes them to shrink and dissolve over a period of weeks as the body naturally absorbs the treated vein. Sclerotherapy in combination with SvelT’i's Laser Vein treatment makes a recurrence of unsightly veins less likely.

THREAD LIFTING
Thread lifting is a popular, non-invasive procedure that aims to reduce deep lines, facial folds, and sagging in the most natural way. These treatments are used mainly on the face but can also be applied on the neck and other body areas. SvelT’i is offering two types of thread lifting: V lift and Beauty thread.

These procedures can stimulate the production of collagen the protein which gives our skin the youthful glow, causing tightness in the area. All types of threads tighten the surrounding tissues and increase blood supply resulting in a healthier and tighter looking skin making you look five to ten years younger. Now, who would’ve thought that a nonsurgical thread lift can give youthful longevity?

These minimally invasive treatments together with the existing noninvasive procedures of SvelT’i assures the client that he or she can be transformed into a younger and better-looking person with no surgery and minimal downtime. And with this kind of technology, it’s absolutely possible to take a few years off the face with lesser expense and pain, unlike surgery.

Living limitless begins with a choice and everyone has that choice. The choice to live a life without bounds. The choice to be a better and beautiful you! With all these new offerings from SvelT’i, there are no restrictions, no stopping points, and nothing will hold a person back from making herself feel well and look beautiful.

Top 5 Things To Do During Rainy Days

Val and I love the rain. It actually means more time to spend together. If it is really not that important, we actually cancel our plans of going out and simply just stay at home. Personally, I consider the rain as a blessing from God especially after I saw how much it meant to the farmers during El Niño.

Thus, we came up with a list of top 5 things to do at home when it's raining.

1. Movie Marathon or Binge Watching - This may be the most popular thing to do when it's raining. Whether you decide to watch a movie or catch up with your missed TV series, just make sure to have popcorn ready.

2. Get More Sleep - Don't miss the chance to get your much deserved rest. This bed weather is a perfect timing for you get more sleep. Make sure to have at least 8 hours. :)

3. Give Yourself a DIY Pampering Session - Whether it's hot oil, deep conditioning, own mani-pedicure session, or simply cutting your nails, take this opportunity to take care of yourself. A DIY pampering session is the one of the greatest ways to express self-love.

4. Hobby Time - With our fast-paced lifestyle, we may often forget our little passions such as writing, drawing, crafting or singing. Do what you love most, find the time to pursue your passion.

5. Keep Yourself Warm - It may be raining outside but it's not enough reason to get cold. Make sure to keep yourself warm by enjoying MAS Soup Sarap

It's so easy to prepare. You just have to add hot water and you'll be able to enjoy a creamy and delicious soup in less than one minute. It is available in 3 flavors: Chicken and Corn, Seafood and Mushroom. MAS Soup Sarap is available in all leading supermarkets and 7/11 stores nationwide.

ManilaMed’s Cancer Care Center

Cancer is one the most dreaded diseases and can mean the end of the world for patients including their families. However, this should not be the case because there is still hope against "The Big C." Early detection of cancer can make a difference and increase the chance of successful treatment.

According to the World Health Organization, recognizing possible warning signs of cancer and taking prompt action can lead to early diagnosis. Thus, it is very important that the first step which is screening and diagnosis must be made by an expert. Access to sufficient facilities is also very crucial. After all, there is no room for errors and every minute counts.

Thus, learning about ManilaMed’s Cancer Care Center provides the peace of mind that there is a place which delivers compassionate patient care with the best outcome. They help patients #feelbetter during unfortunate and trying times.

ManilaMed is a complete, one-stop facility that provides for the needs of its patients. From diagnostic procedures, specialized surgical procedure surgery, radiation oncology and systemic chemotherapy, the Cancer Care Center has everything needed to treat and manage cancer cases.

The Diagnostic Procedures provide an accurate analysis of tissues that confirms the presence of cancer, distinguishing the exact location, size, stage and tumor type. In this section, evaluation of cancer treatment also includes Mammography, Computed Tomography Scanning (CT-Scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine Imaging, Histopathology and Immunohistochemistry, and Endoscopy.

For patients who require surgery, the Specialized Surgical Procedure Surgery section is the most essential. This section prioritizes surgeries under Breast-conserving, Sphincter-Preserving and Laparoscopic Colorectal.

The Cancer Care Center also offers Radiation Oncology. Under this are various types of effective, high-tech treatments such as: Computerized Treatment Planning, 2D Conventional Radiotherapy, 3D Conformed Radiotherapy and Intensity-Modulated.

Family as a Gift Conference is Happening on June 16 at SMX Moa

FAMILY IS A GIFT Conference is happening on June 16, 2018, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

This whole day event aims to showcase the gift of the family, its dignity, and high calling, recognize the challenges families go through today, provide tools that will help couples and families confront these challenges in the form of workshops/breakout sessions and exhort families to work together and persevere in building strong, Christ-centered families that will build a strong, Christ-centered society.

The discussion will feature the following topics:

Part 1: Family Is a Gift

1. The family is a gift.
  • Children are born from an act of mutual self-gift; the family is the first environment where we are received as a gift and where we become a gift to another.
  • Being a gift is being in communion. The marriage of husband and wife is the symbol of the communion of the Trinity and the communion of Christ and the Church. Through their mutual self-gift and life-giving union, children are born.

2. The family is called to be a gift to others outside of it, to other families and to those in need of a family’s love, by being a light that reveals God’s plan for humanity. In a world surrounded by so much darkness, the family is called to shine Christ’s light of truth and hope amidst:
  • Secularism – God has been removed from how we live our lives
  • Relativism – each one dictates his own truth and morality
  • A technological culture that threatens genuine communion and leads to isolation

3. As families we don’t just exist for ourselves; we don’t secure the welfare only of our own children. We exist in a community of families that interact and depend on one other; the weakness of one part affects the whole body.

4. Strong families begin with strong marriages.
  • Marriage is where husband and wife make a total gift of self to each other and become fruitful.
  • Strong marriages allow the light of the family to shine more brightly as it illuminates the way for the children and the future generations, and for other families around it.

Speaker: Fr. Joel Jason, Commissioner on Family and Life, Archdiocese of Manila. Professor of Fundamental Moral Theology, Sexuality and Integrity, Bioethics, and Special Moral Theology at San Carlos Seminary. Parish priest at the Mary Mirror of Justice Parish in Comembo, Makati.

Part 2: Strong Marriages, Strong Families

  • Strong families do not just happen. They require hard work, time, and a solid sense of connectedness between spouses.

Speaker: Lissy Ann Puno, counseling psychologist and Certified Imago Relationship Therapist in private practice in Singapore where she is the co-founder of the International Counseling and Psychology Centre; has 25 years of experience working on psychological health and wellness in the US, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and now Singapore; author of “Affairs Don’t Just Happen” a book on protecting marriages and long-term relationships; workshop presenter for the “Getting the Love You Want” couples workshop.

Part 3: Family: A Light in the Darkness

5. The family is threatened but not helpless. As families, we will not allow the darkness to overwhelm us and extinguish our light.
  • Parents need to take charge of the future and welfare of their families while also working to help other families.
  • Parents and children need to be equipped with practical, relevant ways to work together to address issues that beset them and the culture in which they live.
  • Families working together create a bigger, brighter light that will reveal and bring to the reality God’s plan for His children.

6. Strong, Christ-centered families together build a strong, Christ-centered society.

Speaker: Bro. Melo Villaroman, CFC Chairman; Operating Vice-President, United Laboratories

Registration fee is at Php500, but if you sign up before June 10, 2018, you only have to pay Php350. For more details, visit http://familyisagift.com/family-is-a-gift-conference/
