My wife was rushed to the hospital... because of her brassiere

I know that it is unusual for a guy to blog about brassieres but this experience is very important and worth sharing in order to help women avoid the same health concern that my wife had a few months ago.

It was in early February when Clarice started complaining about chest pain. This would last for 2-3 days then the pain would disappear. After a few weeks, she would experience again the pain in her chest and on her shoulders and there are also instances where she has difficulty breathing.

Fearing that it is something serious and a possibility of a heart attack, we rushed her to the hospital where she underwent an electrocardiogram (ECG) and some other laboratory tests to find out if her heart is working normally. However, her cardiologist said that all tests are normal.

Then, her doctor noticed some red marks under her bust line. Her doctor suspected that the chest pains were due to an ill-fitting bra. Then, my wife remembered that, yes it is possible that her brassiere was the culprit of her health concern. The chest pains started about the same time she got the new set of brassieres. She was then asked to stop using these bras and observe if the condition persists.

So, guess what --- no more chest pains!

We realized that it is very important for women to wear a comfortable bra. Other health effects and risks of wearing the wrong brassiere are:

1. Skin Problems - these can cause scarring or blisters underneath or along the bust line.

2. Bad Body Posture - this may consequently lead to back, shoulder and neck pain.

3. Lymph Node Problems - too much pressure from tight-fitting bras can close lymph valves and vessels.

4. Sagging Breasts - the lack of support spoils the size and shape of the breasts making them heavier that can lead to sagging.

So, where can you get a comfortable bra but with adequate support?

According to my wife, wireless bras are needed for those who have bigger cup sizes since it requires more support. In her case, she needed to avoid using wired bras thus, she was in a dilemma on where to get some comfortable ones but with adequate support.

Finally, she found one or let's say I found one for her!

Last February 15, I got an email from Sample Room PH* and they are introducing Uniqlo Wireless Beauty Bra. Its description in the email got my attention "Beauty Soft Wireless Bra stands out as it has no clips, hooks, wires or stress while retaining its sufficient support." Since it has limited samples available, I immediately grabbed a sample for her.

Uniqlo Wireless Bra holds true to its promise. Here's a message from Clarice after trying the Uniqlo Beauty Soft Wireless Bra.

Choosing the right bra is not all about looking for fancy ones. Lace, net, and underwires are very tempting but women and men who are getting their ladies some lingerie must keep in mind that it is far more important to choose comfortable ones because women deserve to feel limitless.

So, if you have more questions about the bra, feel free to message Clarice and not me for obvious reasons (haha!) on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mymetrolifestyle

  1. This may sound a bit off for a guy to blog about this thing, but personally I find it very helpful. I salute you for writing about this one, its the best way of raising awareness about a certain uncommon illness that most have been disregarded. Anyway, I'll share these info's to my mom and all my girl friends, and surely this would be a great help for them as well. Thank you so much for this.

    1. You're welcome. As husbands, we should start being concerned too.

  3. Oh dear! It's good you guys were able to get to the bottom of this before anything worse happened. I've always felt like the bra manufacturers haven't done a good enough job at making us comfortable. It's either too large, to tight, too small, too padded... This is why I often opt for sport bras instead of normal ones. I don't think it's weird for a guy to blog about bras. This shows you really care about your wife and don't want others to experience the same discomfort. :)

  4. A comfortable bra is of the utmost importance for any woman, no matter how large her cups are. Most women have at least some of the above mentioned health issues but they ignore them. In this way, they surely risk getting some of the diseases. So, I want to say that choosing a good bra is not something trivial, but rather a very significant thing for a woman.

  5. You have done well by blogging on this. Many women suffer silently. Either they aren't aware or they are shy. You are a very thoughtful person, hats off to that!

  6. Wow, I'm so pleased you got the problem solved. Chest pains can be really scary, especially if you don't know the cause. It must be a relief to have an answer that can be fixed without much trouble. The non-wired bras look super comfortable, I'll definitely going to check them out!

  10. It's crazy that a bra could do so much harm, but it can! Getting the right fit and materials is important. And I've always heard bad things about underwires. I try to avoid them when possible. Glad that her chest pains weren't anything serious and that you were able to get to the root of the problem and find a more comfortable bra!

  12. Oh my gosh no way! I never would have guessed that would have been the cause of her pain.

  13. I stay away from bras that have underwires. Not only is it uncomfortable but it does give me pain in my rib cage. I am happy there was nothing wrong with your wife, healthwise. I think this article is a wake up call for women to choose their brassieres wisely.

  14. Yuck! Bras are the worst. Thank goodness I'm small and can go without sometimes!

  15. That's insane that a bra would do that. I never would have thought that. Crazy.

  16. First of all-I love how much you care about your wife. And being a woman, i can tell you most bras are uncomfortable, so I prefer not wearing one, but then you're like judged by society for not looking decent enough. But i just say f**8 them, and not wear one, cause I feel better this way!

  17. Sorry to hear about that issue. I try to be the most cautious about bras even though my chest is very small. I use pro bra fitting services

  18. I've experienced the same thing with wired bras. Even when I was younger, I used a wired bra and told my mom it hurts so much so she took out the wire underneath and that was one of the best feelings in the world, ever. Sometimes, to avoid the pain I use sports bra with good fitting so it would support my breasts just as wired bras do. Lucky for you to find wireless bras in Uniqlo! But, have you ever tried going out without the bra?

  19. I've heard of this happening to someone else too! It's crazy that it can really affect you that much and it's usually the last thing you would suspect. Glad she got everything figured out and is not in pain anymore!

  20. Wow we never heard of this issue before. We are huge fans of European brands because they have more variety in band and cup size vs. a Victoria's Secret.

  21. Wow! I never knew this could happen to someone. What an incredible story. But I'm glad she was able to find one that was comfortable and didn't provide a trip to the hospital.

  22. I'm so glad to hear it wasn't something more serious! But I'm sure she must have been in considerable pain to have to take a trip to the ER. Glad you found a healthier option in Uniqlo!

  23. Yes...I did have this kind of thing. Chest pains because of the bra. It was scary I thought it was another form of asthma attack. Good to know you're wife is fine now and sporting a way better bra. I have to check Uniqlo's bra then. Haven't really ventured in that area of the store. Thanks for sharing!

  24. Oh i never thought that bras can become a culprit of health problems like chest pains. I have never experienced it though. Im very particular with comfort when it comes to undergarments. I like push up with underwire bras but whenever i am just staying at home i love light, and wireless less brassiere.. uniqlo is one source of comfortable and soft bras. I have some of it and i love using it!

  25. I take my hat off to you for writing this article which otherwise is for women.
I didn't know that ill-fitting bras can cause some serious problems. It is a very helpful article indeed.
