Beyond Insurance: Understanding Sun Life’s Culture of Connection

We live in a time when almost everything can be done online. We can open accounts, make purchases, book flights, pay bills, and even seek financial information without speaking to another person. Insurance can be purchased this way, too. But perhaps insurance is one of those things that shouldn't be reduced to a transaction.

When we talk about protecting a family's future, preparing for life's uncertainties, or building financial security, there is something particularly valuable about having a person on the other side of the conversation. Human connection matters.

I was reminded of this recently through Sun Life Philippines' Client Connect Promo, which named Julie Ann G. Jalea of Negros Occidental as the grand prize winner of a ₱100,000 travel voucher.

At first glance, it might seem like another customer engagement initiative. But what caught my attention was the intention behind it. Client Connect is part of Sun Life's effort to strengthen relationships between financial advisors and clients, recognizing something fundamental about financial planning: people's needs don't remain the same.

Our priorities change. Our families grow. Our careers evolve. Unexpected things happen. The dreams we had a few years ago may look completely different today. Sometimes, the only way to understand those changes is to have a conversation, not a sales pitch, but a genuine conversation.

A financial advisor who regularly checks in with a client can understand not just what they purchased, but why they purchased it, what has changed, and what they may need now. A financial plan isn't something that should sit in a drawer. It should grow and change alongside the person it was created for.

But Is Human Connection Really Part of Sun Life's Culture?

This is where I find Sun Life's approach particularly interesting. It would be easy for a company to talk about "human connection" because it sounds good in a marketing campaign. What makes Sun Life's approach feel different is that the idea appears to go beyond the client-facing message.

The company has deliberately cultivated conversations around human connection within its own organization. In 2025, Sun Life invited global keynote speaker Sha Nacino to speak about human connection, bringing together over 1,000 Sun Life Philippines employees, C-suite executives, and global leaders.

If human connection were simply a marketing tagline, there would be little reason to invest in helping leaders and employees understand it on a deeper level. Instead, it suggests an effort to make connection part of how people within the organization think, lead, communicate, and work with one another.

And perhaps that is where genuine client relationships begin. You cannot consistently ask people to listen, empathize, and build meaningful relationships with clients if those same values don't exist within the organization itself.

Culture eventually finds its way into the customer experience.

Beyond the Policy

This is why I think the conversation around insurance needs to move beyond products. Of course, coverage, cost, benefits, and financial strength matter. But they don't entirely answer the question: "Who will be there when I need help understanding what comes next?"

A policy can tell you what you're entitled to. A financial advisor can help you understand what it means in the context of your life. And that distinction becomes especially important when something unexpected happens.

When making a major financial decision, you don't always need another brochure or comparison chart. Sometimes you need someone who knows your circumstances well enough to ask the right question, remembers what you told them years ago, or simply sits down with you and says, "Let's look at where you are now."

That kind of relationship cannot be automated completely. It has to be built, and building it takes time.

A Promo That Points to Something Bigger

This is why the Client Connect Promo caught my attention. The ₱100,000 travel voucher is certainly something worth celebrating for its winner. But beyond the prize, the initiative points to a bigger idea: staying connected with clients should be part of the relationship, not an afterthought after a policy has been purchased.

The goal isn't simply to make a sale and move on. It is to continue the conversation, understand how a client's life is changing, revisit their goals, and provide guidance when circumstances shift.

As Sun Life Philippines territory head for Visayas and Mindanao, Mon Lu, puts it:

“At Sun Life, we believe that financial planning is most effective when built on strong relationships and open communication,”

I think that statement captures what makes Client Connect meaningful. Financial planning is not something that happens once. It is an ongoing conversation. And for that conversation to remain relevant, there needs to be trust, openness, and a willingness to keep listening.

I also believe that what makes insurance fundamentally different from many other purchases. When you buy a phone, you don't necessarily expect the salesperson to call you years later to ask whether it still fits your life. But insurance is different because the thing being protected is constantly changing: your life, your family, your dreams, and your future.

And that is why the human relationship behind the policy matters.

The Real Meaning of Connection

For me, the most meaningful part of Sun Life's emphasis on human connection isn't simply that the company talks about it. It is the effort to embed it into the culture from conversations among global leaders and employees to initiatives that encourage advisors to stay genuinely connected with their clients.

Whether that mission is perfectly achieved is something each client ultimately has to experience. But the intention matters.

Genuine connection cannot be manufactured through a tagline. It has to be practiced in conversations, in follow-ups, in listening, in remembering, and in being present even when there is nothing to sell.

Perhaps that is the kind of relationship we should want from insurance in the first place. Not simply someone who can sell us a policy, but someone who takes the time to understand the person behind it.

Because at the end of the day, insurance may be a financial product, but the reason we buy it is deeply human. We are protecting the people we love, the lives we've built, and the future we hope to have.

And those things deserve more than a transaction.

That, to me, is where Sun Life Philippines makes a difference.

LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera Review

As someone who loves to travel and create content, I like my cameras the same way I like my travel gear: good quality, easy to use, and reasonably priced.

After all, capturing great travel moments shouldn't have to mean spending a fortune. From beautiful views and good food to those unexpected moments that make a trip memorable, I want a camera that can keep up and deliver footage I'm actually excited to share.

So when I got the chance to try the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera, I was curious. Could an affordable action camera really tick all the right boxes?

On paper, it certainly looks promising: 5K video, up to 50 MP photos, electronic image stabilization, dual screens, multiple shooting modes, wireless connectivity, and a waterproof housing - all packed into a camera that weighs just 100 grams.

But specs are only part of the story. The real question is….

Can the LUMOS DOMINATE deliver the quality, features, and versatility you'd want from an action camera without the premium price tag? Let's find out.

D — Design & Portability

One of the first things we noticed about the LUMOS DOMINATE is just how compact it is.

At only 100 grams and measuring approximately 5.5 cm × 2.5 cm × 4 cm, it's small enough to slip into a pocket or a small compartment in your travel bag without taking up much space.

And while its size makes it easy to carry around, the dual-screen setup is what makes the design particularly practical.

The rear screen lets you navigate the camera's menus and review your footage, while the front screen is designed with selfies and vlogging in mind. This makes framing yourself much easier. You don't have to keep guessing whether you're actually in the shot.

Switching to the front screen is also simple. Just press and hold the Down button on the right side of the camera.

For travelers and content creators who frequently shoot themselves, that's a small feature that can make a surprisingly big difference.

O — Outstanding Video and Photo Quality

Of course, the most important thing about any action camera is what it can actually capture.

The LUMOS DOMINATE comes with a 170° wide-angle lens, allowing you to capture more of your surroundings in a single frame. That's particularly useful when you're cycling, riding a motorcycle, hiking, traveling, or simply trying to fit a group of people into one shot.

There's also a 5X digital zoom when you need to get a little closer to your subject without physically moving toward it.

For video, you have plenty of resolution and frame-rate options:
  • 5K Ultra HD at 30 FPS
  • 4K at 60 FPS
  • 4K at 30 FPS
  • 2.7K at 60 FPS
  • 2.7K at 30 FPS
  • 1080p at 60 FPS
That flexibility means you can choose between maximum detail, smoother motion, or smaller file sizes depending on what you're shooting.

Another feature we particularly appreciate is the ability to switch between 16:9 horizontal and 9:16 vertical formats. So whether you're creating a traditional YouTube video or vertical content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and other social platforms, you can choose the format that suits your content.

And it's not just about video.

The LUMOS DOMINATE can capture photos at up to 50 MP, with additional options of 30 MP, 24 MP, 20 MP, 12 MP, and 8 MP.

Having multiple resolution options is useful if you don't always need the highest possible file size and would rather conserve storage space.

M — Multi-Purpose Shooting Modes

An action camera becomes much more useful when you're not limited to simply pressing record.

The LUMOS DOMINATE comes with several built-in shooting modes, including Normal Video, Slow Motion, Time Lapse, and Loop Recording.

That makes it useful for different types of content from short-form videos and travel footage to time-lapse scenes and even dashcam-style recording.

The camera also offers several options for photography.

Automatic Photo Mode allows you to take photos automatically at intervals of 3, 10, 15, 20, or 30 seconds, which can be handy when you want to document an activity without constantly reaching for the camera.

For fast-moving subjects, Burst Photo Mode can capture 3 or 5 photos per second, giving you more chances of getting that one perfect frame.

And if you're taking a group photo or setting up a tripod shot, Timed Photo Mode offers countdown options of 3, 5, 10, or 20 seconds.

In other words, there's quite a bit more to this camera than simply pointing and shooting.

I — Image Stabilization & Audio

Action cameras are meant to move, which is why stabilization can make a huge difference.

The LUMOS DOMINATE features Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) on a range of recording settings and that helps keep footage smoother when you're walking, riding, hiking, or shooting handheld.

For casual travel and everyday action footage, having stabilization built into the camera means you don't necessarily need additional equipment just to get watchable footage.

The camera also has a built-in microphone, so you can record audio directly while filming without having to carry an external microphone for every casual shoot.

N — Next-Level Convenience

Good specs are one thing, but the little conveniences can make a camera much easier to live with.

The LUMOS DOMINATE comes with a 32GB microSD card and supports storage of up to 128GB. It also comes with a rechargeable battery, allowing you to start shooting without having to immediately purchase additional essentials.

When it comes to transferring your files, you can use the USB-C port or a card reader.

But one of our favorite features is the camera's wireless connectivity through the SupCam Pro smartphone app.

To connect, simply press and hold the Up button on the right side of the camera to activate Wi-Fi. Then connect your smartphone to the camera's Wi-Fi network and open the SupCam Pro app.

Once connected, your phone can function as a live monitor. You can also start and stop recording, adjust camera settings, and transfer photos and videos wirelessly.

The wireless connection works best within approximately 5 to 12 meters, depending on walls, obstacles, and other sources of interference.

For travelers, this is especially convenient because you don't always have to wait until you're back at your laptop before you can access or share your footage.

A — Accessories & Amazing Value

This is probably where the LUMOS DOMINATE package becomes particularly interesting for budget-conscious buyers.

The Camera-Only Package is priced at ₱6,999 and already includes the camera, memory card, rechargeable battery, waterproof housing, and essential mounting accessories.

But for ₱7,999, the Bundle Offer adds quite a bit more:
  • Travel case
  • Selfie stick
  • Mini tripod
  • Two additional rechargeable batteries
  • Dual-battery charger
That's only ₱1,000 more than the Camera-Only Package, while adding several accessories that you may otherwise need to purchase separately.

If you're starting from scratch and don't already have action-camera accessories, the bundle may therefore be more practical.

T — Travel Ready

For us, this is where the LUMOS DOMINATE makes the most sense.

It's lightweight, compact, and designed to be carried around. With its waterproof housing, up to 2 hours of battery life, and USB-C charging, it fits naturally into a travel setup.

You can take it hiking, bring it to the beach, use it on rainy days, or simply carry it around while exploring a new city.

And because it charges through USB-C, you don't need to bring a completely different charging setup just for the camera. If you're already carrying a USB-C cable or power bank for your other devices, that's one less thing to worry about.

For travelers who want something smaller and less cumbersome than a traditional camera, that's a definite advantage.

E — Excellent Value

So, is the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera the best affordable action camera?

"Best" will always depend on what you're looking for, but based on the features and accessories packed into this camera, it's certainly a compelling option for anyone who wants a capable action camera without moving into premium-camera pricing.

For ₱6,999, you get a compact camera with dual screens, 5K video capability, multiple shooting modes, EIS, 50 MP photography, vertical and horizontal recording options, wireless connectivity, and a waterproof housing.

And for ₱7,999, the bundle adds extra batteries, a dual-battery charger, travel case, selfie stick, and mini tripod.

That's a lot of functionality for a relatively accessible price point.

—----------------------------

The LUMOS DOMINATE isn't trying to replace a professional cinema camera and it doesn't need to.

Its real strength is versatility and convenience.

It's small enough to bring anywhere, capable enough to capture high-resolution photos and videos, and equipped with the features you'd expect from a modern action camera. Add the included accessories and wireless smartphone connectivity, and it becomes a practical option for travel, everyday adventures, and content creation.

If you're looking for an affordable action camera that you can simply throw into your bag and take with you, the LUMOS DOMINATE is definitely worth a closer look.

And sometimes, that's exactly what you want from an action camera: something compact, capable, and ready whenever the adventure starts.

10 Things You Need to Know About Hong Kong Disneyland Halloween 2026

If you've ever wanted to dress up as your favorite Disney character and walk around Disneyland as an adult, Halloween might be the perfect excuse to finally do it.

From September 18 to November 1, 2026, Hong Kong Disneyland is celebrating Disney Halloween Time with this year's wickedly fun theme, “Party Like a Villain.”

And there's one thing that makes this season particularly exciting for adult Disney fans: Halloween is the special time of year when adults can get in on the costume fun at Hong Kong Disneyland.

So if you're planning a trip, here are 10 things you need to know about Hong Kong Disneyland Halloween 2026.

1. Halloween is the time for adults to dress up at Disneyland

Let's start with one of the biggest reasons to visit during Halloween.

Adults are generally not permitted to wear costumes at Disney theme parks, but Halloween is the special season when adult guests can dress up at Hong Kong Disneyland.

That means you can finally live out that childhood Disney dream of walking through the park dressed as your favorite character.

Want to channel your inner Maleficent? Go for it.

Feeling more like Cruella? Absolutely.

Want to coordinate a group costume with your friends? Even better!

This year's “Party Like a Villain” theme makes it even more fun to embrace your mischievous side.

One thing to remember: Based on previous Halloween experiences, if you're dressed as a Disney character, you may need to approach the Cast Members at the entrance before entering the park. Guests in character costumes may be given a “Guest” sticker to wear on their chest while inside the park. This helps distinguish guests from official Disney characters.

Costume rules may change, so it's always best to check the latest official guidelines before your visit.

2. The 2026 Halloween celebration runs from September 18 to November 1

Disney Halloween Time isn't just a one-day Halloween event.

The 2026 celebration runs from September 18 through November 1, giving you several weeks to plan your visit.

If you're already planning a Hong Kong trip around this time, this could be the perfect opportunity to add a Disneyland day or even an overnight stay to your itinerary.

3. This year's theme is “Party Like a Villain”

Forget being on your best behavior.

This year, the Villains are taking over.

“Party Like a Villain” brings Disney's most iconic villains into the spotlight, creating a Halloween celebration that's darker, more dramatic and definitely more mischievous.

And honestly, it gives you the perfect excuse to dress up as your favorite Disney Villain, too.

4. Get ready for Maleficent's Villains takeover

One of the major highlights is “Uninvited! A Villains Takeover Party.”

Led by Maleficent, the Villains take over the park with a larger celebration and expanded route.

If you've always wanted to see Disney Villains take center stage, this is definitely something to put on your Halloween itinerary.

And if you want a better viewing experience, Disney Premier Access is available for the designated viewing area.

5. You can party with Ursula, Dr. Facilier, Gaston and more

Another must-see for Villains fans is “Let's Get Wicked.”

This musical celebration brings together some of Disney's most memorable villains including Ursula, Dr. Facilier and Gaston for a high-energy performance filled with music and dancing.

It's basically a Villains' party, and you're invited.

6. Watch out for Villains around the park

The Villains aren't confined to one show.

During Villain Hour, you may encounter characters including Cruella, the Queen, Lady Tremaine, Anastasia and Drizella around the park.

As the day goes on, even more Villains make their appearances.

So don't spend your entire day rushing from one attraction to another. Leave some room in your itinerary for character encounters and keep your camera ready!

7. You can enjoy trick-or-treating at the park

What's Halloween without trick-or-treating?

During the celebration, guests can enjoy trick-or-treating at designated locations, with Cast Members getting into character for the occasion.

It's a fun way to experience the Halloween atmosphere beyond the shows and character encounters.

And if you're already dressed in costume, you might as well fully commit to the Halloween spirit!

8. Jack Skellington fans have something special to look forward to

If you're a The Nightmare Before Christmas fan, keep an eye out for “Jack Skellington's The Nightmare Before Dinner.”

The Halloween Town-inspired dining experience combines themed food with entertainment and new surprises for the 2026 celebration.

Because what's Halloween without a little Jack Skellington?

9. Come hungry for limited-edition Halloween treats

One of the best things about visiting Disney during a seasonal celebration is the food and Halloween is no exception.

Hong Kong Disneyland and its hotel restaurants will be serving limited-edition Halloween food and drinks during the celebration.

So don't fill up before you get to the park. Save room for the seasonal treats, spooky snacks and Halloween-inspired creations.

And yes, take the photos before you eat them.

10. The Halloween atmosphere extends throughout the park

It's not just the special shows and character appearances that make Halloween at Hong Kong Disneyland special.

Throughout the celebration, expect Halloween-themed decorations, entertainment, merchandise, food and photo opportunities that transform the park into a festive and slightly wicked Disney experience.

It's the kind of visit where you'll want to slow down, explore the different areas and look for all the little Halloween details.

The Perfect Excuse for Adult Disney Fans

There are plenty of reasons to visit Hong Kong Disneyland during Halloween: the Villains, special entertainment, limited-edition food, character appearances and seasonal experiences.

But for adults who secretly still love dressing up?

This is your moment.

Halloween is one of the rare opportunities to step inside Disneyland in costume as an adult and fully embrace your favorite Disney character.

So gather your Disney-loving friends, start planning those costumes and get ready to Party Like a Villain.

Because you're never too old to dress up at Disney

Especially during Halloween.

The Magic Was Never in Disneyland

People often ask me why I keep coming back to Disneyland. For a long time, I thought it was because I was searching for magic. But the truth is, part of my heart has always been there.

Some of my most beautiful memories with my Mama were made in Disneyland. Walking together down Main Street, laughing over the little things, taking photos we'll never recreate, and watching the fireworks with childlike wonder in our eyes. Those moments became treasures I didn't know I'd one day hold so tightly.

After I lost her, coming back felt different. The castle was still there. The music still played. The smiles, the laughter, the familiar feeling of wonder - it was all the same, except she wasn't beside me anymore. Still, I kept coming back.

Maybe because this was one of the few places where I could still feel close to her. Every corner carried a memory. Every firework felt like a conversation I wished I could still have with her.

Disneyland became more than a destination. It became a place where I could miss her and love her at the same time. A place where grief didn't feel so lonely because it was wrapped in beautiful memories. For years, I believed the magic I was searching for lived there.

Then Magic Shop by BTS found me.

Its message found me when I needed it most. It reminded me that the place we long for, when life becomes too heavy, isn't somewhere outside of us. It's a place we build within ourselves, a sanctuary where our fears are embraced, our tears are understood, and our hearts slowly learn how to believe again.

That's when I realized something.

Disneyland never gave me magic. It simply reminded me of the magic my mama had already planted in my heart. She taught me to believe in wonder, to find joy in little moments, and to love with my whole heart. Even though she isn't here to make new memories with me, every beautiful memory we created still lives inside me.

So maybe that's why I keep coming back. Not because I'm searching for magic anymore. But because this place reminds me that love never disappears. It simply changes the way it stays with us.

And now, this December, my heart is taking me somewhere new.

To a BTS concert.

Maybe that's not a coincidence.

Because the same heart that found comfort in Disneyland has found healing through seven artists whose music reminded me that it's okay to hurt, it's okay to miss someone, and it's okay to keep believing in tomorrow.

This time, I'm not going somewhere to find magic.

I'm going to celebrate the magic I've finally found within myself.

A little piece of my Mama.
A little piece of Disneyland.
A little piece of BTS (방탄소년단)
All of it has led me here.

And I think she'd smile knowing that I'm still choosing wonder.

I Didn’t Understand It Then. I Think I Do Now.

There are some things we only understand in hindsight. When we're in the middle of an ordinary moment, we don't always recognize how meaningful it might become. We don't know which conversations we'll remember years later, which songs will suddenly bring someone back to us, or which seemingly insignificant things will eventually become pieces of a much bigger story. For me, one of those things was my mom saying, “Panoorin mo ’to. Grabe kagaling nila."

She would say it whenever she wanted me to watch a BTS video with her. She genuinely enjoyed watching their performances, especially their dancing, and was always eager to show me something she found impressive. And I would watch, but that's really all it was to me then. I knew who BTS were, of course, but I wasn't a fan. I didn't know their songs, I couldn't tell you much about the members, and I certainly couldn't have imagined spending hours one day trying to learn everything about them. To me, it was simply something my mom liked.

I didn't understand it then. I think I do now.

After my mom passed away, I started looking at those little moments differently. Grief has a way of making you revisit memories you once thought were ordinary. You remember the smallest things, the way someone said something, the things they were excited about, the things they repeatedly recommended and suddenly, those things don't feel small anymore. So when the opportunity came to watch the Arirang Tour in Singapore, my husband and I decided to go on her behalf. It felt like a simple but meaningful way to carry a little piece of her with us.

We were incredibly lucky to secure tickets via Klook, and once we had them, I realized I had a problem: I couldn't possibly attend a concert without knowing the artists first. I'm not the type of person who can just show up and figure things out along the way. If I'm going to a concert, I want to know the songs, recognize the members, and understand what everyone is so excited about. So I started what I jokingly called my “BTS appreciation deep dive.”

I listened to their music and watched performances, dance practices, interviews, and eventually fell into the world of BTS. I wanted to understand their personalities, their story, and what made these seven men so beloved by millions of people around the world. At first, I was simply preparing for a concert. But then something unexpected happened: I started enjoying it. Really enjoying it. I found myself laughing at their antics, looking forward to the next episode, replaying songs I liked, and slowly learning who they were beyond the performances my mom and I had once watched together.

The more I discovered, the more I began to understand what she had seen. It wasn't just about dancing or music. There was something about their energy, their humor, their friendship, their determination, and the way they could make people feel connected to something bigger than themselves. Maybe that's what my mom had been seeing all along. And perhaps that's why this journey has meant more to me than I expected it to. I wasn't simply discovering something new; I was rediscovering something my mom had once tried to share with me.

Somewhere along the way, I found myself looking forward to these little moments of discovery. I found myself laughing more and having something to be excited about. I found joy. It's not the kind of joy that erases grief, because losing someone you love doesn't work that way, but a kind of joy that could sit beside it. A song could make me smile while I still missed my mom. A funny episode could make me laugh even on a difficult day. And somehow, that felt important. Grief had taught me that happiness doesn't have to mean you've moved on. Sometimes, happiness is simply proof that you are still capable of experiencing something beautiful even while carrying the weight of someone's absence.

And somewhere along the way, I became an ARMY.

It's funny to think about how unexpected this all was. I started this journey because I wanted to understand something my mom loved. I wanted to be prepared for a concert that we decided to attend in her memory. But somewhere between the songs, the performances, the dance practices, the interviews, and all the news about BTS, I found something that became my own. At the same time, it still feels connected to her.

That's probably why I want to document this journey, not simply as a story about discovering a new group, but as part of a much more personal story about grief, memory, and finding unexpected pockets of happiness. Over the next few days (or weeks), I'll be sharing some of the things I've discovered along the way: the songs I've come to love, the moments that made me laugh, the things I've learned about the members, and eventually, what it was like to experience the concert itself.

If you've been ARMY for years, I hope you'll enjoy seeing Bangtan through the eyes of someone who's only just beginning. And if you've ever been curious about BTS but didn't know where to start, maybe my journey will encourage you to press play on that first video.

Because now, when I think about my mom telling me, “Panoorin mo ’to,” I hear it differently. I used to think she was simply recommending a video. Now, I wonder if she was sharing a little piece of herself with me. Maybe she knew how much joy they would eventually bring me. Maybe she simply wanted me to see what she saw. Or maybe it was never meant to be anything more than a mother sharing something she loved with her daughter. I'll never really know.

But looking back now, I think I finally understand why those words stayed with me. I didn't understand it then. I think I do now. Maybe every “Panoorin mo ’to” was never just about the video. Maybe it was simply my mom's way of saying, “Look at this. I love this. I want to share it with you.” And somehow, years later, I finally did.

I pressed play.

And I think she would have been happy that I did.

Before You Gossip About Someone, Read A Wrinkle in Time

We all know someone who loves a good piece of gossip. Sometimes it starts as harmless curiosity. Other times, it's a quick judgment about someone we barely know. We tell ourselves, "It's just conversation." But words have a way of traveling farther than we expect and they often leave wounds we never see.

That's one of the many reasons I think more people should read A Wrinkle in Time.

At first glance, Madeleine L'Engle's classic seems like a children's science fiction novel filled with mysterious planets, extraordinary beings, and adventures across space and time. But beneath the fantastical story lies a timeless lesson about kindness, acceptance, and the damage caused by fear and judgment.

One of the book's strongest messages is that being different is not something to be ashamed of. Meg Murry isn't the picture of the "perfect" child. She's awkward, insecure, struggles in school, and often feels like she doesn't belong. She's misunderstood by classmates and even by adults who are quick to judge her without taking the time to understand her.

How often do we do the same in real life?

It's surprisingly easy to form opinions based on rumors or first impressions. We hear one side of a story, repeat it, and suddenly someone else's reputation becomes entertainment. Gossip thrives because it's easier to talk about people than to talk to them.

But A Wrinkle in Time quietly reminds us that every person is fighting battles we cannot see.

The novel also explores the dangers of conformity and discrimination. In the story, there's an unsettling pressure for everyone to think alike, act alike, and fit neatly into society's expectations. Anyone who doesn't fit the mold is viewed with suspicion or treated as less worthy.

That idea feels remarkably relevant today.

Whether it's someone's appearance, personality, beliefs, background, or life choices, people are often judged simply for being different. Gossip becomes another tool that isolates rather than connects. It creates invisible walls between people instead of building understanding.

What makes the novel so enduring is that it offers a better alternative.

Again and again, the story shows that kindness is stronger than cruelty, love is stronger than fear, and understanding is stronger than judgment. The characters succeed not because they are perfect, but because they choose compassion over condemnation.

Imagine how different our communities, workplaces, schools, and even our families would be if we paused before repeating a rumor.

Imagine asking, "Is it true?"
"Is it necessary?"
"Is it kind?"

Those simple questions could stop countless hurtful conversations before they begin.

Perhaps that's why A Wrinkle in Time continues to resonate with readers decades after it was first published. It's not just a story about traveling across the universe. It's about becoming better human beings here on Earth.

So before passing along the latest gossip or making assumptions about someone you've never really taken the time to know, pick up A Wrinkle in Time instead.

You might discover that the greatest adventure isn't through space and time.

It's learning to choose empathy over judgment, kindness over gossip, and love over fear.

What to Look Forward to at the Philippine International Comics Festival 2026

I'll admit it - when I was, I thought comic books were just for superheroes.

But I was wrong - some of the best stories I've ever read came in the form of komiks and graphic novels. They made me laugh, linger on beautiful artwork, and sometimes sit quietly after turning the last page. That's the thing about comics: they're not just something you read. They're something you experience.

By the way, I'm excited to share the Philippine International Comics Festival (PICOF) return this July 10–12, 2026 at Ayala Malls The 30th.

And this year, there's an even better reason to drop by: it's completely FREE.

What I love most about PICOF isn't just the comics. It's the people behind them.

You'll find artists sketching at their tables, writers happily chatting with readers, independent creators proudly sharing books they've spent months (or years) creating, and fellow fans discovering titles they've never heard of before. It's one of those rare events where everyone seems genuinely excited to be there.

Walking around the comics market almost feels like treasure hunting. Every booth has something different to offer: beautifully illustrated graphic novels, art prints, original comics, and stories that you probably won't find in your usual bookstore.

This year's festival also brings together creators from the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Australia, making it a wonderful opportunity to see how comics connect people across cultures.

If you're the kind of reader who loves discovering something before everyone else does, PICOF is also where many new releases make their debut. From fantasy and mythology to romance, memoirs, slice-of-life stories, and thought-provoking graphic novels, there's always something unexpected waiting to be picked up.

Beyond the books, you can also check out the exhibits.

The tribute celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of National Artist for Comics Larry Alcala feels especially meaningful. His work has become such an important part of Filipino visual storytelling, and it's wonderful to see both his original pieces and modern interpretations by today's komiks creators in one space.

There's also Sinta: Queer Stories Across Asia, an exhibit featuring creators from Japan and Southeast Asia. I always enjoy seeing how artists from different countries tell stories about love, identity, and belonging through such a unique medium.

And if you've ever wanted to learn how comics are actually made, the festival offers masterclasses, artist talks, live drawing sessions, and creator discussions throughout the weekend. Even if you don't draw yourself, hearing artists talk about their process can be surprisingly inspiring.

What I appreciate most about PICOF is that it reminds us how rich Filipino komiks have always been.

For generations, local creators have been telling stories that are funny, heartfelt, imaginative, and deeply rooted in our culture. Festivals like this give those stories and the people who create them, the spotlight they deserve.

So whether you're a longtime comic collector, someone who enjoys graphic novels every now and then, or simply looking for something different to do this weekend, PICOF feels like a wonderful place to spend a few hours.

You might leave with a new favorite book.

Or a sketch from an artist you just met.

Or maybe just a renewed appreciation for how powerful stories can be when words and art come together.

Either way, I think that's time well spent.

More Than Songs: Conversations on Faith and Everyday Life

In a time when many people are carrying quiet battles, uncertainty about the future, pressure to keep up, burnout, and the constant expectation to have everything figured out, conversations about faith can offer something many are looking for today: space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what truly matters.

Responding to this need for more honest and meaningful conversations, Reverb Worship, the music arm of CBN Asia, officially launched Reverb Worship: The Podcast, a new faith-based conversational podcast that premiered on June 5, 2026 on Spotify and YouTube.

More than a music platform, the podcast opens conversations around faith, identity, calling, personal growth, and the real-life moments that shape people’s journeys. Through stories shared by worship leaders, creatives, and believers, the show explores how worship becomes more than a Sunday experience. It becomes a response to God’s faithfulness through every season of life.

Hosted by Joselle Feliciano and Icko Gonzalez for the pilot episode, the podcast creates a space that feels authentic, hopeful, and relatable for listeners navigating their own questions, challenges, and faith journeys. From Episode 2 onwards, Joselle is joined by fellow Reverb Worship artist Neo Rivera as co-host.

“For me, the podcast feels like a natural extension of Reverb Worship,” shares producer, host, and Reverb Worship artist Joselle Feliciano. “The music we create has always come from real stories, real questions, and real seasons with God, and this format gives us the chance to go deeper into the heart and journey behind those songs.”

John Valdes Tan, CBN Asia’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer adds, “The Reverb Worship podcast was created to show that there’s more to worship than music; it is a lifestyle. By featuring Christian artists, we learn how to face life with joy and hope amid its challenges. We believe these conversations will inspire viewers to live victorious lives that worship God.”

The pilot episode features Andrea Badinas and centers on the theme “Loved Anyway,” inspired by her song “Ako’y Sa ’Yo.” In a culture that often celebrates perfection, performance, and having all the answers, the episode reflects on a different kind of message: encountering God’s love even in moments of weakness, imperfection, and uncertainty.

Through Andrea’s personal story, the conversation explores grace, belonging, and the reassurance that love does not withdraw when people are messy or unsure, but instead moves toward them with patience and kindness.

New episodes of Reverb Worship: The Podcast are released every other week. Listeners can now stream the pilot episode and catch upcoming conversations on Spotify and YouTube via @ReverbWorshipPH.

LUMOS EVOKE Digital Camera Review: Pocket-Sized 4K Camera Reminds Us Why We Started Taking Photos

In a world where smartphone photos are becoming increasingly polished, filtered, and AI-enhanced, there’s something refreshing about a camera that embraces spontaneity, warmth, and nostalgia.

That’s exactly what the LUMOS EVOKE Digital Camera aims to do.

Instead of chasing hyper-realistic, overprocessed images, the EVOKE focuses on something many modern devices have quietly lost: personality. It’s compact, beginner-friendly, and designed for people who want their photos to feel more authentic, cinematic, and emotional without spending a fortune on professional gear.

After unboxing and testing the camera, here’s our full review of the LUMOS EVOKE and why it might just convince you to put your phone down for a while.

E — Extraordinary Detail

What makes the EVOKE interesting isn’t just its specifications, but the overall feeling it gives your photos. While most smartphones today aim for ultra-sharp, AI-enhanced perfection, the EVOKE takes a different direction by embracing warmth, softness, and character. The result is a nostalgic aesthetic that makes everyday moments feel more personal and genuine.

Despite that vintage-inspired look, the camera still delivers impressively modern performance. It captures 64MP photos and records 4K video at 30FPS, giving users crisp detail while still maintaining a softer, timeless atmosphere through its built-in filters and image processing.

The EVOKE also offers several recording modes that make it surprisingly versatile for content creators. Beyond standard 4K recording, it supports 2K video, 1080p at 60FPS, slow motion, loop recording, and time-lapse features. Whether you’re filming travel clips, café visits, casual memories, or social media content, the camera gives you plenty of creative flexibility without making the experience overly complicated.

Photography features such as continuous shooting, auto shutter, and countdown timer also help make capturing moments feel quick and effortless. Instead of constantly tweaking settings, the EVOKE encourages users to simply enjoy the process of taking photos.

V — Vlogging-Friendly Design

The EVOKE is clearly designed with creators in mind.

One of its standout features is the flip IPS display, which makes framing selfies, vlogs, tutorials, and casual content much easier. Whether you’re filming indoors or outdoors, the screen stays bright and visible from multiple angles.

What’s even more surprising is its versatility beyond photography.

The EVOKE can also function as:
  • A webcam
  • A livestreaming camera
  • A content creation tool compatible with platforms like OBS
For students, remote workers, streamers, or aspiring creators, that’s a practical bonus rarely seen at this price point.

O — On-the-Go Portability

Portability is easily one of the EVOKE’s strongest features. Because it’s so lightweight and compact, carrying it around never feels inconvenient. It slips easily into small bags and feels natural to bring along to cafés, vacations, school trips, concerts, road trips, or even casual hangouts with friends.

That portability changes the entire experience of photography. Larger cameras can sometimes make shooting feel like a production, but the EVOKE keeps things simple and approachable. It feels less intimidating and more spontaneous, encouraging users to capture moments as they happen instead of overthinking every shot.

In many ways, that ease of use is part of what makes the camera enjoyable.

K — Kaleidoscope of Creativity

This is where the EVOKE truly stands out from smartphones. Instead of spending hours editing photos to achieve a nostalgic aesthetic, the camera delivers that mood instantly through its 16 built-in filters.

From Retro and Nostalgic tones to Japanese Style, Dopamine, Cream, Gothic, and Black & White filters, each option gives photos a distinct personality straight out of the camera. It transforms ordinary scenes into images that feel cinematic and memorable without requiring complicated editing apps or presets.

The EVOKE also includes a 16X digital zoom and a built-in flashlight, giving users extra flexibility when shooting in different environments or lighting conditions. These features may seem simple, but together they contribute to a shooting experience that feels creative, relaxed, and enjoyable.

E — Effortless Connectivity

The EVOKE keeps connectivity refreshingly straightforward. It uses a universal USB Type-C connection for charging and supports up to 256GB of storage. File transfers through the included card reader feel quick and beginner-friendly, making it easy to move photos and videos between devices.

Battery performance is also reliable enough for all-day casual shooting, which makes the camera practical for travel and everyday use. Since it charges via Type-C, recharging is convenient whether you’re using a power bank, laptop, wall charger, or even your car charger while on the road.

It’s these small conveniences that make the EVOKE feel easy to integrate into everyday life.

Final Thoughts: A Camera With Personality

The LUMOS EVOKE isn’t trying to replace your smartphone, nor is it trying to compete directly with professional cameras. What it offers instead is a completely different vibe, one that feels softer, more nostalgic, and more intentional.

In an era where photos are often overly polished and algorithmically enhanced, the EVOKE brings back a sense of authenticity. It reminds users that photography doesn’t always have to be technically perfect to feel meaningful.

Sometimes, the best memories are the ones filled with warmth, imperfections, atmosphere, and emotion.

That’s what the EVOKE captures so well.

Price and Availability

The LUMOS EVOKE is available in two variants: the 32GB version priced at ₱4,999 and the 128GB version priced at ₱5,999. Both versions come with a one-year local warranty and dedicated customer support.

You can order it directly through their website -> https://www.lumosprojector.ph/evoke

Since launching in the Philippines, LUMOS has also built a strong following and earned thousands of positive reviews from customers over the past few years. The EVOKE is currently available directly through the official LUMOS website.

Is the LUMOS EVOKE Worth It?

For casual photographers, students, travelers, and aspiring creators, the LUMOS EVOKE offers a surprisingly enjoyable experience at an accessible price point. It’s compact, stylish, beginner-friendly, and most importantly, genuinely fun to use.

More than anything, it reminds us that photography is not always about capturing the most perfect image. Sometimes, it’s simply about preserving moments in a way that feels real.
