REVIEW: LUMOS RAY Smart: A Budget-Friendly and High Resolution Home Cinema Projector (Sample Video and Audio Output Included)

LUMOS RAY is a lightweight portable projector that can bring a cinema-like experience at home for you and your family despite the limited space. 

It is from a homegrown Singaporean brand that aims to bring the best quality home cinema projector that is amazingly affordable for everyone. L - Lightweight and Elegant and Premium Looking

As the great Italian painter Leonardo da Vinci once said, simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Obviously, LUMOS shares the same philosophy, as shown in its projectors’ design. It features a compact and sleek look that adds a touch of modernity to your room. It comes in the color white which is perfect especially if you want a minimalistic feel in your home.

It measures 16x17x15 cm and weighs 1.2 kgs only. It’s handy and has a leatherette handle. This is also lighter compared to other home projector models making it an ideal choice if you want a projector that is portable and easy to carry around.

U - User Friendly

The LUMOS RAY Smart is a plug-and-play device that makes it easy for anyone to use even if they are not tech-savvy. It comes with its own built-in Android operating system and some pre-installed applications such as Netflix and YouTube which are the top 2 most used applications by Filipinos.

Typical home projectors are not smart devices which means you have to connect them to a source before you can use them. However, the LUMOS RAY Smart, as mentioned already has pre-installed applications so, all you need to do is turn on the device, connect to wifi, login to your Netflix or Youtube account, and start enjoying your favorite movies on the big screen.

Another thing we like about the LUMOS RAY Smart is the flexibility and availability of options on how to use it. Aside from the pre-installed apps, you can also connect the projector via HDMI, USB, or RCA cable to different media sources such as your computer, laptop, gaming console, setup box, or smartphone. 

If you prefer wireless connections, you can opt do to a Wireless Mirror Casting via Air Screen. This is very easy to use. Simply pull up the built-in Air Screen & connect it to Wi-Fi to mirror your smartphone or computer. Many use this option when they play video games or mobile games or if they simply want to use Spotify like karaoke, or even during video conferencing. 

You may also mirror cast your devices using the Miracast app. If you are using a Windows 10 desktop, you may connect wirelessly using this application since it is compatible, and you don’t have to install anything.

The flexibility and options on how to use and maximize the LUMOS RAY Smart don’t stop there. Initially, we were concerned that the LUMOS RAY Smart doesn’t have other buttons or built-in controls on the device which means that it is 100% reliant on its remote control.

The good news is -- this is something that we don't really need to worry about. There are other ways to operate the device aside from using the remote control. You can connect a wireless mouse and keyboard via Bluetooth or a wireless adapter. 

If you don’t have one, your regular mouse and keyboard also work when plugged into the USB port. Personally, we find using a wireless mouse the easiest and most convenient way to control the unit.

M - Massive Screen with Little Space

One key feature of the LUMOS RAY Smart is the ability to project a massive screen with little space. In fact, a 3m distance, can project an impressive 100-inch screen. This only means that your dream to have a home cinema in your small bedroom is now possible.

You don’t even have to worry about where to put it or how to install it in your room. You can actually use your regular tripod to set it up since it comes with a tripod mount at the bottom.

In case it’s slanted or is not directly perpendicular to your wall or screen due to room limitations, it comes with a keystone correction allowing you to still project a straight image despite the misalignment. 

O- Outstanding Video Quality

The LUMOS RAY Smart has bright 3,000 lumens and a contrast ratio of 3000:1 which provides outstanding video quality. It can support a 720p HD clear resolution or a 1080p Blu-Ray Support for great visual clarity. Its high brightness makes the colors more vivid in darkness (not grainy or washed out.) Normal portable projectors are around 1,000 only.

S - Surround Sound

This projector already has built-in Dolby Audio speakers that are responsible for a good cinematic surround sound that is powerful enough by itself.

If you want to use your wireless speakers or a soundbar then you can also easily connect them via Bluetooth, HDMI, or a standard 3.5 audio jack.
