As someone who loves to travel and create content, I like my cameras the same way I like my travel gear: good quality, easy to use, and reasonably priced.
After all, capturing great travel moments shouldn't have to mean spending a fortune. From beautiful views and good food to those unexpected moments that make a trip memorable, I want a camera that can keep up and deliver footage I'm actually excited to share.
So when I got the chance to try the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera, I was curious. Could an affordable action camera really tick all the right boxes?
On paper, it certainly looks promising: 5K video, up to 50 MP photos, electronic image stabilization, dual screens, multiple shooting modes, wireless connectivity, and a waterproof housing - all packed into a camera that weighs just 100 grams.
But specs are only part of the story. The real question is….
Can the LUMOS DOMINATE deliver the quality, features, and versatility you'd want from an action camera without the premium price tag? Let's find out.
D — Design & Portability
One of the first things we noticed about the LUMOS DOMINATE is just how compact it is.
At only 100 grams and measuring approximately 5.5 cm × 2.5 cm × 4 cm, it's small enough to slip into a pocket or a small compartment in your travel bag without taking up much space.
And while its size makes it easy to carry around, the dual-screen setup is what makes the design particularly practical.
The rear screen lets you navigate the camera's menus and review your footage, while the front screen is designed with selfies and vlogging in mind. This makes framing yourself much easier. You don't have to keep guessing whether you're actually in the shot.
Switching to the front screen is also simple. Just press and hold the Down button on the right side of the camera.
For travelers and content creators who frequently shoot themselves, that's a small feature that can make a surprisingly big difference.
O — Outstanding Video and Photo Quality
Of course, the most important thing about any action camera is what it can actually capture.
The LUMOS DOMINATE comes with a 170° wide-angle lens, allowing you to capture more of your surroundings in a single frame. That's particularly useful when you're cycling, riding a motorcycle, hiking, traveling, or simply trying to fit a group of people into one shot.
There's also a 5X digital zoom when you need to get a little closer to your subject without physically moving toward it.
For video, you have plenty of resolution and frame-rate options:
- 5K Ultra HD at 30 FPS
- 4K at 60 FPS
- 4K at 30 FPS
- 2.7K at 60 FPS
- 2.7K at 30 FPS
- 1080p at 60 FPS
That flexibility means you can choose between maximum detail, smoother motion, or smaller file sizes depending on what you're shooting.
Another feature we particularly appreciate is the ability to switch between 16:9 horizontal and 9:16 vertical formats. So whether you're creating a traditional YouTube video or vertical content for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and other social platforms, you can choose the format that suits your content.
And it's not just about video.
The LUMOS DOMINATE can capture photos at up to 50 MP, with additional options of 30 MP, 24 MP, 20 MP, 12 MP, and 8 MP.
Having multiple resolution options is useful if you don't always need the highest possible file size and would rather conserve storage space.
M — Multi-Purpose Shooting Modes
An action camera becomes much more useful when you're not limited to simply pressing record.
The LUMOS DOMINATE comes with several built-in shooting modes, including Normal Video, Slow Motion, Time Lapse, and Loop Recording.
That makes it useful for different types of content from short-form videos and travel footage to time-lapse scenes and even dashcam-style recording.
The camera also offers several options for photography.
Automatic Photo Mode allows you to take photos automatically at intervals of 3, 10, 15, 20, or 30 seconds, which can be handy when you want to document an activity without constantly reaching for the camera.
For fast-moving subjects, Burst Photo Mode can capture 3 or 5 photos per second, giving you more chances of getting that one perfect frame.
And if you're taking a group photo or setting up a tripod shot, Timed Photo Mode offers countdown options of 3, 5, 10, or 20 seconds.
In other words, there's quite a bit more to this camera than simply pointing and shooting.
I — Image Stabilization & Audio
Action cameras are meant to move, which is why stabilization can make a huge difference.
The LUMOS DOMINATE features Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) on a range of recording settings and that helps keep footage smoother when you're walking, riding, hiking, or shooting handheld.
For casual travel and everyday action footage, having stabilization built into the camera means you don't necessarily need additional equipment just to get watchable footage.
The camera also has a built-in microphone, so you can record audio directly while filming without having to carry an external microphone for every casual shoot.
N — Next-Level Convenience
Good specs are one thing, but the little conveniences can make a camera much easier to live with.
The LUMOS DOMINATE comes with a 32GB microSD card and supports storage of up to 128GB. It also comes with a rechargeable battery, allowing you to start shooting without having to immediately purchase additional essentials.
When it comes to transferring your files, you can use the USB-C port or a card reader.
But one of our favorite features is the camera's wireless connectivity through the SupCam Pro smartphone app.
To connect, simply press and hold the Up button on the right side of the camera to activate Wi-Fi. Then connect your smartphone to the camera's Wi-Fi network and open the SupCam Pro app.
Once connected, your phone can function as a live monitor. You can also start and stop recording, adjust camera settings, and transfer photos and videos wirelessly.
The wireless connection works best within approximately 5 to 12 meters, depending on walls, obstacles, and other sources of interference.
For travelers, this is especially convenient because you don't always have to wait until you're back at your laptop before you can access or share your footage.
A — Accessories & Amazing Value
This is probably where the LUMOS DOMINATE package becomes particularly interesting for budget-conscious buyers.
The Camera-Only Package is priced at ₱6,999 and already includes the camera, memory card, rechargeable battery, waterproof housing, and essential mounting accessories.
But for ₱7,999, the Bundle Offer adds quite a bit more:
- Travel case
- Selfie stick
- Mini tripod
- Two additional rechargeable batteries
- Dual-battery charger
That's only ₱1,000 more than the Camera-Only Package, while adding several accessories that you may otherwise need to purchase separately.
If you're starting from scratch and don't already have action-camera accessories, the bundle may therefore be more practical.
T — Travel Ready
For us, this is where the LUMOS DOMINATE makes the most sense.
It's lightweight, compact, and designed to be carried around. With its waterproof housing, up to 2 hours of battery life, and USB-C charging, it fits naturally into a travel setup.
You can take it hiking, bring it to the beach, use it on rainy days, or simply carry it around while exploring a new city.
And because it charges through USB-C, you don't need to bring a completely different charging setup just for the camera. If you're already carrying a USB-C cable or power bank for your other devices, that's one less thing to worry about.
For travelers who want something smaller and less cumbersome than a traditional camera, that's a definite advantage.
E — Excellent Value
So, is the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera the best affordable action camera?
"Best" will always depend on what you're looking for, but based on the features and accessories packed into this camera, it's certainly a compelling option for anyone who wants a capable action camera without moving into premium-camera pricing.
For ₱6,999, you get a compact camera with dual screens, 5K video capability, multiple shooting modes, EIS, 50 MP photography, vertical and horizontal recording options, wireless connectivity, and a waterproof housing.
And for ₱7,999, the bundle adds extra batteries, a dual-battery charger, travel case, selfie stick, and mini tripod.
That's a lot of functionality for a relatively accessible price point.
—----------------------------
The LUMOS DOMINATE isn't trying to replace a professional cinema camera and it doesn't need to.
Its real strength is versatility and convenience.
It's small enough to bring anywhere, capable enough to capture high-resolution photos and videos, and equipped with the features you'd expect from a modern action camera. Add the included accessories and wireless smartphone connectivity, and it becomes a practical option for travel, everyday adventures, and content creation.
If you're looking for an affordable action camera that you can simply throw into your bag and take with you, the LUMOS DOMINATE is definitely worth a closer look.
And sometimes, that's exactly what you want from an action camera: something compact, capable, and ready whenever the adventure starts.
