Road Trip: Bacolod to Don Salvador

Summer vacation is almost over! Since classes are starting on June 5, Val and I decided to have a quick getaway this weekend. (If you just met us or just discovered this blog, my husband, Val is a teacher in one of the public schools in Bacolod City.)

Since we wanted to just have a quick getaway without breaking the bank, we opted to visit Don Salvador Benedicto. They call it the "Baguio" of Negros but we think it's more of the "Tagaytay" of Negros. It has a cooler climate and one can expect to see lots of greenery and pine trees. It is approximately a one-hour ride from Bacolod City. The roads are good and cemented. If you plan to commute, there are a lot Ceres buses that you can take from the terminal.

When going to Don Salvador Benedicto, you will take the Bacolod-Murcia highway (The same one that you would take when you are traveling to Cebu by land which I will share in a separate post.) Your first stop is the lion's statue that welcomes you to the municipality.

Also, take time to visit the viewing deck as you can see mini rice terraces below.

Restaurant choices in Don Salvador Benedicto are quite limited. Since we wanted one that has a good view, we had our lunch at the Mountain View Resort Bar and Restaurant.

Estimated budget is Php 300-500 per head. Though there is nothing really fancy or special about the food at the Mountain View Resort Bar and Restaurant,  it's definitely clean and reasonable.

Another stop is the Malatan-og falls viewing deck. It is where you can enjoy the cool breeze and wonderful view. If you are lucky, there's also fog that you can enjoy. Malatan-og falls viewing deck is also where we buy locally made banana chips for pasalubong. It is only Php 10 per pack and it is really good.

There are other resorts in Don Salvador Benedicto such as Balokon Spring Resort which was a bit crowded when we checked as well as Jomax Peak where we never had luck securing a booking. Well, you don't really need a reservation or resort accommodation to enjoy Don Salvador Benedicto. The place on its own is already a treat. We even saw others just parking their car along the road, brought food and enjoyed the surroundings.

Also, let us share with you one last tip: When heading home, don't forget to drop by the pine trees lining the road with the not so visible I LOVE DSB sign. It is a great place to have your souvenir picture taken.

How about you? Do you have other quick getaway recommendations in Negros?

How do you view your facebook birthday video?

I had a blast celebrating my birthday and overwhelmed by the birthday greetings from family, friends, and clients. Though we may say that facebook was primarily responsible for reminding them about your day, still I am very grateful that they took the time and effort to send me a private message or write in my timeline. I even have one client and friend, Sha Nacino who is a well-known inspiration speaker and author, the Founder of the 90 Day Book Writing Challenge who took the time to shoot a video for me. I am so touched. :)

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sent their gifts. I couldn't be more blessed. Anyway, going back to the original purpose of this post is how to view your facebook birthday video.

Technically, it is a video from facebook that will show on the top of your timeline the day after your birthday to highlight photos and messages from friends. Though it will automatically show on your timeline, one may realize that after viewing it, you may have no idea how to view it again.

So, thank you Facebook for the wonderful birthday video. You have indeed become a big part of how people celebrate birthdays over the years.

Novuhair Summer Hair Care Tips

I confess that summer is not my favorite season. No matter how much I love going to the beach, I don't enjoy being under the heat of the sun. Whenever we visit, I would rather enjoy the salty smell of the sea breeze under a beach hut and try avoiding the summer sun as much as I could.

After all, spending extended hours under the extreme summer sun can pose serious dangers to our hair and scalp. It is the same UV rays that bring damage to our skin without proper protection can equally hurt your hair and scalp.

Below are some of the problems your hair can encounter during the season:

  • Split-Ends - UV rays and extremely high temperature can take their toll on your strands. The heat drains the moisture of your hair out causing breakage.
  • Double Trouble – Rebonded or permed hair needs extra attention as high temperature well as humidity disrupts the cuticle breaking some of the chemical bonds that keep the hair straight or curls and roughing up the cuticle, taking away shine and smoothness.
  • Scalp problem – Scalp may also get sun-burned if you don’t use cover-ups for your head.
  • Grease problem – Summer sun and humidity can bring extra grease on your hair, leaving it vulnerable to damage.
  • Chlorine Stress – Swimming in the pool subjects your hair to chlorine. The outer layers of the cuticle of the hair opens up when you swim and chlorinated water seeps into the center of the hair thus making your hair more brittle.
  • Excessive Salt Water – Salt water can cause the same damage as chlorinated ones. Salt water dries on the hair it creates a high-saline solution which can build up and cause hair to feel dry, weighed down and hard to manage.
However for instances that we really can't avoid going out or for others who really loves the sun, salt and the sea, we don't need to worry because all these problems can be addressed by these simple hair care tips.

1. Keeping your hair clean and showered after each activity.

How to Manage Long Hair During Summer

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are 100% mine.

Having long hair during summer may not be the best idea. With the heat, sun, and humidity, one may just simply resort to immediately cut his or her hair short. However, for someone like me who does not want to really have short hair, these tips have been helpful on how to manage long hair this summer time.

Please note that some tips are also applicable even if you have short hair.

1. Avoid blow drying.

Since hair is all stressed due to the summer heat. We should try as much as we could to reduce its exposure to heat and thus, avoiding blow drying unless it is completely necessary. Summertime is the best time to simply air-dry your hair and go for the natural look.

2. Get as much protection.

Yes, you read that right. We need to protect our hair by covering it using a hat or scarf which would also help you retain moisture for your hair. There are also some shampoos available in the market that offers UV protection or simply put a little sunscreen lotion.

3. Use wide tooth comb instead of a regular brush.

Using a wide tooth comb is less harsh when you're untangling hair locks. Thereby, significantly reduces the stress we put on our crown of glory.

4. Put hair up in loose and comfortable styles using ponytails.

Ponytail does a good job in keeping your hair under control while minimizing its exposure to the sun. Drawstring ponytail is my personal favorite because it makes styling so easy.

You can order online via Divatress which is a leading beauty company that offers a wide selection of hair care products, accessories, and wigs. And yes! international orders are accepted. :)

Reasons Why Moms Are The Best + Cheesecake's New Litter

Mother's Day is a few months away but recent events made me realize how amazing moms are. A few weeks ago, my adopted furbaby, Cheesecake gave birth to 4 puppies. The delivery had some complications wherein the umbilical cord was not cut for 2 puppies and the last puppy got stuck for more than 12 hours. These made the puppies stressed and weak that they require extra care.

Taking care of newborn puppies is no different taking care of a human baby. One must make sure they have a clean environment, no one gets sat on, gets enough milk and they never get cold. Plus, they have to be breastfed every 2 hours. The bottom line is - as a furparent to newborn puppies, I could not afford to sleep because I have to watch them closely no matter how tired I was.

Just like moms - the responsibility is 24/7. No dayoffs or breaks. No matter how tired or sick they are. They have to attend to their children. This is the top reason why moms are simply the best. Their unconditional love for their babies (human or not) is so huge that they put their personal needs aside to attend to their family first.

I realized that it is not easy being a mom. Moms give everything that they can to finish and fulfill their responsibilities. An 8-hour of sleep is indeed a luxury and one cannot afford to get sick. I even called my Mama and to ask her if it is really like this wherein I get no sleep. Plus, there are unending needs of your "babies" while household chores are piling up. I asked her how did she cope with everything. My mom just laughed and told yes, it's like that.

Can you imagine life without mom? Watch this video and find out.

Tag your moms/ wife below and let them how much you appreciate them.

Book Review: Break Free by Don Soriano

2017 is a promising year for me. I have claimed that it is going to be a great year to start building our dreams and working on our life goals. Goals which included career growth, passion projects, addressing business needs, family plans and most importantly personal growth and development.

Our goal is not really about getting filthy rich but it's about living comfortably, having genuine peace of mind and breaking free from the financial worries. In 2016, I learned the having a proper mindset is the key to a successful life. Thus, I have committed to invest in myself more by following inspirational people and reading self-help books.

Break Free by Don Soriano

I was fortunate enough to get a copy of Don Soriano's book, Break Free. It talks about the principles to get from employee to employer in 3 years or less. I said to myself, "This is perfect. Just what I exactly needed."

Readers are expected to read the book in 1 hour though was able to finish it in 45 minutes (Yes, I timed it. + you wouldn't want to stop reading it until you finish the book.)

Though it's a quick read, the book provides very helpful and practical tips. It is very straightforward making it a perfect gift to stubborn and lazy readers.

The book is not only about giving you tips on what to do but it also makes you think and realize your current situation, unacceptable excuses while inspiring you that you can still change your life and break free. (So, yes if you are stubborn and full of excuses, then this book would talk some sense into you.)

I believe that everyone should read this. We should all realize the value of financial education and proper money management.

Don Soriano's Break Free will teach you:
  • Why you should not quit your job now?
  • What is the key to happiness?
  • How can you learn and grow more?
  • How will your environment affect your success in life?
  • And a lot more
Currently, they are not yet available in major bookstores but you can order it online at www.facebook.com/iamdonsoriano for only Php 300.

About Don Soriano
If you are wondering, Don Soriano is a successful businessman who is a part owner of a branch of an international restaurant franchise and the franchisee of several Mr. Softy Ice Cream food carts. He is also a trainer and speaker who empowers people in business, personal finance, investments, and leadership.

BACOLOD BLOG SERIES: Where can you find real corn nachos in Bacolod?

Bacolod has been home to distinct and really good food. From chicken inasal, fresh seafood, baby back ribs to sweet treats, there is no doubt that Bacolod is a foodie's haven.

Beyond our local discoveries, there is one thing that we were missing from our favorites in Manila. We cannot find REAL CORN NACHOS in Bacolod. Every time we order nachos from restaurants, we get disappointed to be served with something like "fried wonton wrappers" (No offense to those who prefers this but we really prefer the Mexican type corn nachos.)

Thank God that Nacho King has opened their first branch here in Bacolod. Nacho King is located near SM Cinema just behind the Brownies Unlimited kiosk.

For as low as Php 135, one can enjoy their Biggie Beefy with Salsa (which is my favorite). These are real corn nachos with lean ground meat, salsa and a generous amount of cheese sauce.

If you want it with jalapeno and mushrooms, one can also opt for their Biggie and Jumbo Loaded Nachos. Both sizes are good for sharing. You can also build your own nachos starting at Php 45 for medium size nachos with cheese and Php 25 per additional topping. Nacho King is indeed the perfect movie time snack

For your reference, here is Nacho King's pricelist.

And because their nachos are crunchy and really delicious, we got excited when we found out that we can also purchase nachos separately. They offer big packs of plain nacho chips for Php 110 and Php 90 for their flavored nacho chips. Flavors include cheese, chili cheese, sour cream, and barbecue. I believe this is a better option for pasalubongs plus you can make our own DIY nachos with our own preferred toppings at home.

So, for everyone who's looking for real corn nachos like us, the search is over since Nacho King SM Bacolod is already in the city of smiles. As you can see, Val clearly enjoys his favorite snack.

Go ahead and visit them near SM Cinema and follow them on facebook, https://www.facebook.com/NachoKingBacolod/ for more updates and upcoming promotions.

Jason Wahler Is Going To Be A Dad

Val and I love hearing about baby stories. As a TTC couple, we get excited when we hear pregnancy announcements just like when we heard that "The Hills” star Jason Wahler and his wife Ashley, are expecting their first baby!

Though the funny thing is, Jason and Ashley found out they were expecting on the same day that Jason's ex and former Hills co-star Lauren Conrad announced that she was pregnant

Source: https://www.instagram.com/ashleywahler

In an even more interesting twist, the pregnancy announcement news was preceded by some crazy marriage timing as well. Ashley and Jason were married back in 2013, and the next morning, Lauren announced that she and then-boyfriend William Tell had gotten engaged. Jason called the whole debacle “so awkward”.

As if that wasn't enough baby excitement for one set of former co-stars, back on February 9, Whitney Port announced that she is also pregnant. There must be something in the water for these former co-stars, with all of them announcing back to back pregnancies.

This is good news for Jason who has been sober since 2010 following his very well documented and tumultuous relationship with Lauren on the show, which he blamed on his alcoholism. 2017 is indeed a year of opportunities and new adventures for everyone including these first-time parents. Excited to see this new little bundle of joy.

Congratulations Jason and Ashley! Keep the “Hills” babies coming!
