Bacolod Blog Series: You've never been to Bacolod if you've never been here!

I have always believed that every place has one iconic spot that almost all tourists visit. One where you should take the "mandatory" shots. Places such as Merlion Monument in Singapore, Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Magellan's Cross in Cebu and The Ruins for Bacolod.

The Ruins in Bacolod was a mansion built in the early 1900s by the Lacson family, one of the famous clans in the sugar industry here in Negros Occidental. The largest structure in the area that has a beautifully landscaped garden and a 4-tier fountain that added to its majestic view.

For more than 100 years, this structure in a 900+ sq meter property still stands firm and provides a picture perfect background to all visitors. They are also one of the favorite venues for a prenuptial shoots. Aside from taking pictures and enjoying its rich history, one can also relax and have coffee in their Mediterranean cafe.

TIP: The best time to visit is actually around 5pm or early in the evening when the lights have been lit up.

So, whenever you visit Bacolod, make sure to drop by at The Ruins. The roads are already cemented and it is very accessible even if you don't have private transportation. There are tricycles at Brgy. Bata that can bring you there. Entrance starts at Php 40 for students and senior citizens and it Php 95 for adults.

5 Things Why You Need to Experience Subic Bay Yacht Club

Subic is one of the easy escapes from the busy and crowded Metro Manila. It approximately takes a 3 hour drive via NLEX. Whenever we hear about Subic, we immediately think of Ocean Adventure and Zoobic Safari as our primary destinations. Definitely, those two should be part of your itinerary however, I would highly suggest that you also experience the Subic Bay Yacht Club.
Subic Bay Yacht Club is all about experiencing the good life. A luxurious and elite experience that even if we don't get to do it everyday, it would definitely be a memorable once-in-a-lifetime experience.
For years, this place was a membership only facility which means that it was exclusive to those who have the 6 digits for the fee. The luxury and exceptional experience were only limited to those with fortunes. However, today, the premiere marina is extending their membership to non members to feel, enjoy, eat and have the a great experience at the club.
It is located North West of Manila and is set with Zambales Mountain range on the Eastern part and the tranquil Subic Bay that opens to the South China Sea on the west. A perfect paradise with safe harbors and pristine flat waters. A vacation destination with elegant design. An exquisite service and warm hospitality.

Now, let me give you 5 reasons why you should visit the Subic Bay Yacht Club:
1. It's a paradise
In the hustle and bustle of city life, whether you're from Manila or in any parts of the world, Subic Bay Yacht Club offers the million dollar view of the bay and surrounded by mountains. We love to escape stress and just to look at the pristine and relaxing view gave us that moment that we all need, the feeling of rejuvenation.

2. Accommodation
The different choices of rooms with the options based on your budget and need. They have rooms for as Php 6,000 per night. They also have a variety of accommodation at Subic Bay Yacht Club. All are spacious and elegantly designed to satisfy the discriminating taste of every member and guest. Each room and suite offers a balcony, with selected suites having a marina vista.
3. Food
Breakfast is always grand at Subic Bay Yacht Club. The variety of dishes in a buffet set up makes one likes to go back and to start the morning right. (This is my top reason to visit them)
4. Pool and Jacuzzi
The elegantly designed swimming pools are just part of the complete package. Everyone who checked in can use this facility. You can just relax in this place while checking out the different yachts over the bay which is just 20 feet or less away from the pool.
All rooms are equipped with a jacuzzi in case you want complete privacy relaxing in our own room.

Bacolod Blog Series: Calea Pastries and Cakes

Bacolod City is now officially our home! After our "epic journey" traveling by land, we have finally settled down. (Hooray!) More details on the road trip, here.

Now, our next stop is to explore this place since Masskara Festival will be celebrated in a few months specifically in October. I have decided to create a blog series featuring our latest discoveries in this beloved city.

I love sweets and I'm really crazy about desserts. So, my first featured post is all about Calea Pastries and Cakes.

Whenever you mention where's the best place to have cakes, locals would immediately mention this place. Known as "the home of the country's best cheesecakes", Calea Pastries and Cakes should be on top of your itinerary whenever you visit Bacolod.

They offer a wide selection of cheesecakes, imported chocolate cakes, refrigerator cakes, and muffins which will make you go gaga on what to choose.

Here are some of our favorites.

Strawberry Cheesecake

Blueberry Cheesecake

Oreo Cheesecake

Chocolate Mousse

I won't go over a detailed review of how they taste but I'll tell you. Everything is so good.

But can you guess what's the best thing about their cakes? They are super affordable. Each slice is around Php 95 only. They also offer coffee and blended drinks just like your typical coffee shop.

Calea has several branches in the city: Robinson's Place Bacolod, The District/ Ayala Northpoint, and the main one at Lacson Street.

So, next time you're in Bacolod, consider dropping by here. Just a heads up. This place is really popular among tourists so, it gets pretty crowded sometimes.

Rainy Day: What to Wear?

Today is my dad's 67th birthday. We were supposed to go out to celebrate but it was raining really bad due to Typhoon Ineng. The roads are flooded and since we stay at our farm, it's actually very muddy. Despite all of that, I love the rain. I love wearing jackets, sweatshirts and boots to keep me warm. Working in a call center also made me consider jackets, coats and sweatshirts a staple in fashion.

There are actually different kinds of coats/jackets ranging from wool to waterproof depending on your preference but I highly suggest that we choose the ones that can be worn on rainy days and even mild weather. We should never forget to bundle up especially during the BER months since our immune system drops when it's too cold. Being sick is not cool.

Online shopping communities like eBayKaymu, and among others have a wide range of cozy items like coats, jackets, hoodies, boots, thermal leggings, and more. You can also trade in or sell your pre-loved items in these online stores either by their web or mobile platforms.

We should keep in mind that even if the weather might not be very good, it's not an excuse to look crappy. So, bring out the fashionista in you and let's start singing in the rain.

Top 5 reasons why you should visit Mrs. Graham's

Val and I were in Tomas Morato area and decided to look for a place to hangout while waiting for our dinner appointment. Since traffic was bad, we decided to just find a place near the vicinity. A cozy place caught my attention and we decided to check out Mrs. Graham's.

And guess what? I immediately fell in love with it.

Here are top five (5) reasons why you should visit Mrs. Graham's:

1. They offer the best french macaron in town. Not to mention they have a lot of flavors to choose from. My faves are the salted caramel and ensaymada.

2. Aside from macarons, they also offer cakes and coffee.

3. They offer board games that you can enjoy for free. Val and I spent the afternoon playing "Snakes and Ladders" which I believe is a great change.

4. They have free wifi. I guess all establishments should offer that now.

5. Lastly, they have awesome decorations. They provide the perfect ambiance for hanging out with friends. The place is not crowded which I really love.

I highly suggest that you plan your next hangout session with the girls at Mrs. Graham.

How to verify your paypal account without a credit card?

Entering your credit card in any online portal is scary nowadays. No matter how much they say that the site is secured, I am still not willing to do so. That is why I always prefer to pay via COD or Dragonpay whenever I go online shopping.

But verifying paypal accounts is another story.  In order to secure your paypal account, one is asked to verify the account by confirming your email address and adding a debit or credit card that is going to linked to the account.

According to PayPal, verification increases the security of the payment network for sellers and buyers. Verification gives PayPal additional evidence of a member's identity, this will inform others that you have completed the process.

Since it is an absolute rule for me not to use credit cards online, I researched for a way to verify my paypal account without the use of a credit card and I ended up using the BPI e-prepaid card.

Source: www.bpicards.com.ph
BPI e-prepaid card is a reloadable Mastercard that you can get for Php 500 and is valid for 2 years. (Though I got mine for only Php 350 via a promotion in Ensogo) One can apply online to get the card and after 5-7 days you can pick up the card in your preferred BPI branch.

Once you have the card, you just have to login to your paypal account and click the unverified link and follow the instructions.

It is important that the name of the card and the PayPal account name is exactly the same. Thus, it is not an option to use someone else's card.

So, go ahead and get verified. It is our responsibility to do our part in securing the network since there are a lot of bad things happening in the online community. You may read about my Paypal hacking incident, here

SCAM FREE: Get paid by answering surveys online.

With a lot of scams and online fraud happening nowadays. Finding an easy online gig is unbelievable. Yet, I am happy to stumble upon a website that says "Get paid by answering surveys online.

Though I have read both good and bad reviews about this website, I took the chance of finding out if this was legit or not. They say, "it pays small but it sure is." So, I immediately signed up for the website and started answering surveys.

Your pay is dependent on a points system. You get a certain number of points for every survey you take and when you reach a minimum number of points, you can redeem it for paypal funds. You may also get extra points for referring your friends and family but the referral point is only credited once they activate and start answering surveys on their own.

The things that stop me from making it a full time gig are

  • The surveys are limited. Depending on your profile, you just a get a certain amount surveys assigned to you.
  • The surveys screens out. It means that based on your answers, you may unqualified to continue the survey and you simply get 5 points for the effort.

So, I had been answering surveys for a couple of weeks on my free time. (You don't need to login to their website everyday because they will send an email notification if there is a survey assigned to you) and ended up with approximately 1200 points which is enough to redeem Php500 paypal funds for 1160 points.

So, last August 7 was the moment of truth for me because I redeemed my first payout.

I was informed that it will take 5-10 business days for processing which means I should expect it to be credited to my account between August 14- 21.

Today (August 15) I was so happy to get an email that it has been credited to may paypal account.

So, if you think this is legit and would like to know more about this, send me a PM on my facebook page or you may leave your email address on the comments below so that I can send you a link.

P.S. There is no joining fee, no processing fee or any form of payment from the member though I am just still extra careful about providing my sensitive information when answering the surveys.

Same Dog, Different Owner

I have always believed that a dog's life is dependent on its owner. The same dog may look different given a different owner. Some are lucky to have such good parents that treat them as family while others have owners who are just good at the beginning and simply abandon them as they age or get sick.

As an animal welfare advocate, we had always encouraged genuine dog lovers to adopt rather than shop. A massive campaign to give these poor furbabies another shot in life. Hoping that they can truly find their happy ever after with their new owner.

On a personal note, I honestly do not want another pet to take care of. I understand the big responsibility it entails. From the basic needs such as food and water to medical and emotional needs, being a furparent is not an easy job. I was contented being a mom to Crumpy.

Little did I know that another dog would be part of our lives and we named her Cheesecake (because she looks like an Oreo cheesecake.)

Photo: after we gave her a haircut and a bath

This little girl was an abandoned dog roaming around the streets. She was very dirty, smelly and full of fleas when we got her. Not to mention starving too. It was a pity to just look at her and thus, even without plans, we knew we can't just leave her alone and we decided to bring her home.

We posted a lost and found ad to see if she had a previous owner however, for more than a month no one claimed her. We are thinking that she might have been abandoned. We brought her to the vet and she was diagnosed with an eye infection. She had been whining for a couple of days and not really eating well so, there is a big possibility that she is seriously ill and we are just waiting for other laboratory results to check her medical condition.

I realized that the hardest part of taking care of a rescue dog is that we do not have any history of her. We do not even know how old is she and we are just guessing everything. The only thing I am certain about is that Cheesecake deserves another and better shot in life.

Please help us pray for her fast recovery.

Book Review: Innocence in Time by Chai Galapon

Innocence in Time is a modern tale that gave a refreshing twist to our favorite Disney fairy tales. The book is written by the Filipino Author Chai C. Galapon.

It is a wonderful read for all ages as the story is full of life lessons and surprises. It is highly recommended that readers are familiar with the stories of Cinderella, Snow White, and Beauty, and the Beast.

For someone who practically grew up watching and reading these fairy tale stories, this book has definitely provided me some sort of "closure" far from the typical fairy tale ending of "They lived happily ever after."

About the Book:

When the 12 princes from different fairy tale kingdoms were captured by the evil witch, everything in mankind's history changes. Only one person could bring back all that's been taken. Will Tatiana Rose be able to save us from the evil witch's wrath? How and why would she do that and risks everything that's important to her?

Pet Friendly Inn in Kalibo, Aklan

Our land travel from Manila to Bacolod by land was such a long trip that we decided to spend one night in Kalibo. Every parent's concern when traveling with their furbabies is that we do not have a lot of pet-friendly hotels and inns available in the country.

Given that our overnight stay was not really planned, I was not able to make any reservations nor even research a place where they would allow Crumpy to stay. I was just praying and wishing that we could find a place where dogs are allowed. We were so tired from the 18-hour trip and we badly need a place to crash.

Good thing, we saw the Garcia Legaspi Mansion Tourist Inn. It is not really a fancy place to stay but rather it is quite old already. Its location was great because it's in the heart of the downtown area. You can easily spot the place because it's just in the main street after you pass by the famous Kalibo bridge. It is beside Andok's which is open 24 hours so, you get to have decent food anytime you need without going far.

We got a room good for 3 persons for Php 1,350. I wanted an extra bed for Crumpy. The room was fully equipped with hot and cold shower, cable TV, aircon and comfortable beds. It was just what my little family needed.

It even has a small nook where we had our meal.

Recommendation: If you are looking for an affordable place to rest or if you have your pets with you then you might want to consider this tourist inn. The staff are very friendly. The only problem was that they do not have ample parking space. But generally, we had a good stay enough to energize us for the next day's trip.

My paypal account was hacked and how to contact paypal for FREE?

This is actually a very late post since this actually happened last April but this is continuously happening and more people are victimized. So, let me share to you my experience and how I got my money back.

Here is an archive of my email inbox and read from the bottom to top.

I found out that there was something wrong with my Paypal account because I got an email notification that my card was removed which I never did. So, I immediately logged in to my account and found that there are no transaction history and my account is apparently unverified.

This kept me puzzled at first but later on, I realized this could not possibly be my account and my brother told me that there is no way to delete the transaction history of paypal. The hacker apparently created a new account using my email address and password which pretty much explains the missing transaction history, unverified status, welcome email from Paypal and an another email about activating my Paypal account.

So, in panic I immediately sent a report to Paypal which was very disappointing because it's so hard to make a report since you just get routed to the resolution center and have to answer the bunch of questions but still you don't get the response that you need. Furthermore, I was making a report about a wrong account because I was accessing the new account created for me.

After trying to figure out what was really happening, I realize I need my original Paypal account wherein I do not have access to it because the primary address linked to the account has been changed and so is the password. Luckily, I was able to retrieve the my account using the forgot email and password link but I couldn't totally secure the account because I can't change the security questions.

I also saw a new card has been added to the account and that there is a pending withdrawal. My heart just sank like there is nothing I could do. After 4 hours, I still did not receive any reply from all the emails I sent. I had no choice but to call the Paypal hotline which was a toll free number in the US.

Initially, I was thinking of using our landline to call the hotline but thinking about the long distance charges, I tried to call them using skype and viola! It worked. I was able to talk to an American agent who was very efficient in assisting me. He confirmed that there was indeed two paypal accounts linked to my email address. One was just created earlier that day. He asked about the pending withdrawal and I said that was not authorized so, he immediately reversed the funds and I got my money back.

Thank God I got my funds back but it was really a traumatic experience especially during the time spent waiting for Paypal customer service to open during business hours. Another thing is that I learned is that it is not safe to keep my funds online anymore thus, I withdraw them immediately from thereon.

BTW, in case you would need to call Paypal and (I hope not for the same reason I did). You just have to dial +18882211161 via skype to avoid charges and just follow the IVR.

Trendy, Affordable and High Quality Bluetooth Speakers?

Our 5th year anniversary will be in a few weeks and I am looking for a perfect gift for Val. My husband, a former drummer really loves music and I am thinking of getting him portable speakers among the other 5 small things that I will be giving him. One gift for every year of togetherness.

Little did I know that shopping for one is a bit confusing since there are so much choices. One must consider their preferences in terms of portability, size, connectivity and budget. Not to mention, the different shapes, sizes and brands to choose from.

Well known brands would be the best option but prices are really expensive. High End Portables such as Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker III. Price is around $300 or Php 12,000. Definitely out of budget?!

Thus, I am happy to find out that CDR-King, a well known one-stop media provider offers trendy, affordable and high quality bluetooth speakers.

Bose Soundlink Bluetooth Speaker III.
CYRUS BLUETOOTH SPEAKER (WITH USB AND MICRO SD CARD SLOT) - Php 480.00
LAUREN BLUETOOTH SPEAKER - Php 580.00
FREMONT BLUETOOTH SPEAKER ( WITH USB AND MICRO SD CARD SLOT ) - Php 580.00

So, I still have 2 weeks to decide on what to get for Val. How about you are you planning to get your own bluetooth speakers too? If yes, then drop by at any CDR-King branches nationwide.
